Air will travel the path of least resistance so only 50% of a honeycomb is ever functional. By forcing the smoke to enter the middle or the disc this allows for an even distribution of air out to all the holes in the perc. The hexagon base is both extra sturdy and gives a scientific look and feel to your piece!
